An Independent Business Thriving Amongst the Chains

What sets Merrypak apart from the rest?

When our small printing works began manufacturing paper carriers and boxes and our little factory shop morphed into a packaging store, we had little to no competition. We were never risk-takers but we were definitely groundbreakers. Over time, we have seen others move into some of the areas we cover and while quite startling, it has motivated us to keep our offering relevant. We are still an independent family business – not a chain, not franchised and with only one outlet. By keeping it small, we believe we can stay hands-on and maintain a consistent level of service.

What we are not…

We are not the cheapest and I doubt, we ever will be. We manufacture in our own Cape Town factory and many of our processes involve hand work. Ensuring our staff earn a living wage and using the best possible raw materials may push up our prices beyond those of some other role players. In addition, being an independent business means that we must create our own supply chain and manage our own logistics.

So why use Merrypak when you could get a product that does a similar job, down the road?

We believe we have a role to play in society. Our inclusive workspace works – providing opportunities to those living with a disability and uplifting all of us by working alongside the differently abled or neurodivergent. Our staff are eclectic; drawn from many walks of life and cultures and those differences are celebrated at Merrypak.

We stand by the products we stock and manufacture. A good time to evaluate a business is when things go wrong. We are personally involved in the day-to-day running of Merrypak and when there’s a crises, we handle it ourselves.

We are not the biggest, not the fastest and not the cheapest. What we are is ethical, committed and passionate about business.
